2020 was another year of big wins for Printron customers at the Flexographic Technical Association Excellence In Flexography competition, and we’d like to offer all our sincere congratulations!
According to the FTA: “The Excellence in Flexography Awards is the premier awards program for the flexographic industry. It is the only competition flexographers from around the world trust to define who’s who in the package printing and converting industry.
As the longest running and most prestigious annual print competition, its mission is to honor outstanding companies who have made exceptional quality and precise consistency their mission in the pursuit of printing excellence. Each of the hundreds of entries received every year is individually evaluated by a panel of judges on its degree of difficulty and level of execution. Award-winning prints offer proof of significant achievements in quality, and they gain worldwide recognition and coverage through a number of avenues”.
We are honored and proud of the fact that we had the opportunity to be a part of these outstanding print jobs and are grateful to our partners who continue to move the flexographic printing industry forward and push the boundaries of what was before unheard of.
As a critical supplier to both the corrugated and flexible packaging industries, Printon is continuing to operate at full capacity and has taken steps to keep our employees and their families safe.
In this time of chaos and uncertainty, we’d like to share this take on the importance of the corrugated industry in getting much needed supplies to those who need them and emphasize that we will be there for our customers, vendors and employees to the best of our ability, for the foreseeable future.
From Buzz Digital Marketing written by Sebastian Reisig:
Corrugated Box Industry Keeps Supply Chain Moving Amid COVID-19 Challenges
The manufacturers of corrugated cardboard boxes are working to keep transport packaging flowing to makers of essential products including packaging for food and other consumer products, medical and pharmaceutical products, tissue and hygiene products and more amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Corrugated cardboard packaging is the backbone of the American supply chain,” said Fibre Box Association President and CEO Dennis Colley. “As COVID-19 changes our daily lives, we want to assure consumers that the box industry is continuing to operate and to deliver needed packaging to our customers who supply grocery stores, pharmacies, doctor’s offices and hospitals with food and medical supplies to keep us all healthy and safe.”
Disruption in the availability of these goods would cause significant hardships to consumers across the country who depend on steady and stable supplies. Corrugated cardboard manufacturers are dedicated to continuing to operate box plants under the guidelines of Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to ensure products continue to flow to market.
Fibre Box Association joins American Forest & Paper Association in encouraging Federal, State and local governments to recognize the corrugated packaging industry as “essential” when drafting “Shelter in Place” orders. We ask for clear exclusion of our manufacturing operations to limit disruptions to the supply chain.
“We are grateful for the dedication and commitment of all people working in the corrugated packaging industry,” said Colley.

Showing the Steps from Brown Boxes to Multi-Color & Process Print at Forum 2019!
This exciting session which included a panel of 4 industry experts with different roles in the direct print corrugated process, was co-chaired by Geoff Roznak of Great Northern Container and Mike D’Angelo of the AICC.
Our own Jake Kraus was thrilled to be a presenter! Jake shared his expertise and perspective on how printers can work with their pre-press and plate supplier to deliver a high-quality package or display, with graphics, that until recently, were only possible with more costly litho pre-printed liner or labels.
Jake explained how Printron manages more complex prepress and plate making processes, and highlighted the print champions. He also elaborated on process control, press characterization and the partnership that is necessary between the converter and supplier.
We remain committed to sharing our expertise and experiences to move the direct print corrugated industry into the future. It is only through continued education and collaboration that we all improve and ultimately succeed. Can’t wait to see what Forum2020 will have in store!

Showing the Steps from Brown Boxes to
Multi-Color & Process Print at Forum 2019
More and more corrugated converters are moving into the areas of color and complex print, as customers react to market forces. As a result, presses are being purchased and transitions are happening with greater frequency.
In Forum 2019’s “Transitioning from Brown Boxes to Multi-Color Flexographic Printing – Join the Growth,” the customer, converters and plate maker will walk through the steps of the workflow, starting with the original idea at the converter’s customer as they begin to look for a way to deliver a high-quality package or display at lower costs than the normal litho laminated corrugated process.
The session will focus on how to sell that idea, the changes and enhancements made to the converter’s workflow and prepress, equipment needs, what training crews require, how to sell multiple-color, high-end, flexo-printed graphics, and finally what the future holds for the market and what trends to watch. Session co-chairs Mike D’Angelo and Geoff Roznak will introduce the story and provide guidance along the way.
“With the increasing interest in multi-color presses with high capabilities, we wanted to tell the story about what the transition from relatively simple print to more complex printing looked like,” says Roznak. “The industry has come a very long way in the last 30 years with regards to print capability, and more and more, converters are looking for ways to embrace the technology.”
In the marketplace, brand managers are constantly seeking how to present and position their products in the relentless retail and online environment, D’Angelo adds. “Corrugated printers and converters have been transitioning their businesses to participate more and more in the value-added packaging that the decisions made by brand managers are creating. This session will present to the audience the journey of two printers, a brand manager and a supplier. They will share the methods that they have successfully used to make high-quality flexography the process of choice for their customers—and lived to tell about it.”

Learn more about the Printron P.A.A.T Committee!
What does P.A.A.T. stand for?
The short answer is: Printron Appreciation and Acknowledgement Team. The committee was formed in 2003, and like most things around here, has evolved and grown over time. Originally it was formed to recognize employee milestone work anniversaries. Since then it has become much more than that.
Having fun and giving back!
Today the P.A.A.T. committee plans and runs many events to not only encourage and foster a welcoming and fun work environment, but also to provide opportunities for employees to give back to our community. And give back they do!
Upcoming events for 2019 include:
- Super Bowl chili lunch
- Food for Madness-a NCAA bracket competition complete with prizes for the final 4 winners and food drive for St. Joes Food Pantry.
- Brewers home opener celebration with popcorn, licorice and Cracker Jacks. Wearing team apparel is highly encouraged.
- Dog Days of Summer and pet supply drive with a hot dog cookout lunch.
- Fall school supply drive.
- Are you ready for some football? This is new for 2019 and will include a quarterback challenge competition.
- Fall flannel fun day with a corn hole competition (yes there’s prizes for the top 3 winning teams)and root beer on tap.
- Warmth of the season-a holiday lunch combined with a collection of hats, mittens, gloves and scarves for the Fox Valley Warming Shelter.
Clearly we are all about some friendly competition, sports and giving back. This is a winning combination for our team as well as our local community. Printron employees continue to step up and provide much needed assistance to St. Joe’s Food Pantry, The Neenah Animal Shelter and the Fox Valley Warming Shelter among others. Their continual and overwhelming generosity has been inspiring and much appreciated by many.
Membership on the P.A.A.T. committee is open to everyone. Please see H.R. manager Mary Hilker if you are interested in joining, we’d love to have your ideas for future events!
